Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids (SPARK)

The SPARK® program is a nationally researched physical activity after-school program designed to promote quality, daily fitness-related activities and to encourage children to be lifelong movers.

Problem Areas Addressed:

  • childhood obesity
  • physical inactivity
  • difficulty getting along with peers

Skills Built:

  • team building
  • cooperation
  • aerobic skills
  • physical fitness

Age/Grade Level: Children ages 5-14

Setting: After-school, summer camp programs for community or faith-based organizations, or recreation centers

Format: Series of twenty 60-minute sessions or daily sessions during a summer camp program.

Effectiveness:

  • Named an “Exemplary Program” by the National Diffusion Network of the U.S. Department of Education
  • Awarded “Gold” status by the Cooper Institute
