Elementary Youth Support Program

 


EYSP is a school-based, small-group early intervention/prevention program for students in grades K-5 at risk for substance abuse and other health-damaging behaviors.

 

 

Problem Areas Addressed:

  • students’ levels of self-efficacy
  • inability to interact appropriately with peers
  • difficulty controlling behavior
  • identifying and expressing feelings in safe, healthy ways

Skills Built:

  • positive coping strategies
  • decision-making skills
  • conflict resolution
  • communication skills
  • stress management

Age/Grade Level: Kindergarten-5th grades

Setting: Small-group, pull-out program during the school day or after-school, small-group programs or summer programs

Format: Series of twenty 30-minute sessions during the school year

Effectiveness: Promising program in the state of Pennsylvania

Working toward NREPP (National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices) status as an evidence-based, model program.

Documented Evidence of:

  • increased anger management skills
  • increased positive peer relationships
  • increased positive classroom behaviors
  • increased decision-making skills.
