Baby Think It Over Program (BTIO)
The Baby Think It Over® program provides a real-life, hands-on experience for young adults that simulate the parenting of an infant by utilizing computerized babies which are programmed to cry for different needs.
Problem Area Addressed:
- teenage pregnancy
- teenage sexual activity
Skills Built:
- responsible decision-making
- understanding of parental responsibilities
- possible abstinence
Age/Grade Level: Middle school students
Setting: Small to medium sized groups, pull-out program during the school day (typically during a club period); one weekend simulation, or evenings/weekend programs for community or faith-based organizations
Format: Series of seven 30-40 minute sessions plus one weekend simulation
Effectiveness: Documented evidence of:
- increased awareness of responsibilities associated with parenting
- increased communication between parents and students regarding sexuality and parenting issues
